THE Election Commission (EC) has officially been notified by the Speaker of the Perak State Legislative Assembly Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid, regarding the unexpected vacancy in the N.48 Ayer Kuning seat in Perak.

This vacancy follows the passing of the late assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin on February 22, 2025.

In a statement today, Election Commission Secretary Datuk Indera Ikmalrudin Ishak announced that in accordance with Article XXXVI (5), Part One, of the Perak Darul Ridzuan State Constitution, the seat must be filled within 60 days from the date the EC confirms the vacancy.

As a result, he said, a special meeting for the upcoming by-election in respect of the N.48 Ayer Kuning state seat in Perak will take place on March 7, 2025 (Friday) to discuss the implementation and procedures of the election.

He added, a press conference will be held immediately following the Special Meeting. - February 28, 2025
