POPULAR female singer from Kelantan, Eda Ezrin or Wan Norshaheeda Azlin Wan Ismail, 30, along with her husband and four others were acquitted of possessing 6,059 ecstasy pills found in a hotel room in Golok on November 1.

The decision was made by a panel of two judges in Narathiwat, Thailand after reviewing all the prosecution witnesses' testimonies during the three-day proceedings on February 11, 13, and 14.

According to reports, the judge stated that there was no evidence linking the possession of 6,059 ecstasy pills to the six defendants.

According to him, in addition, the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at a hotel in Sungai Golok also does not show that they brought the drugs into the room.

"On the contrary, there were three other individuals who brought the drugs into the room of the six accused," he said.

However, Eda Ezrin, her husband Mohd Affendi Ahmad, 35, along with Eridieka Mohd Noor, 33, Mohamad Alif Deraman, 33, Nur Aida Mamat, 33, and Zuhaira Nasrin, 26, were sentenced to six months in prison and fined 4,000 baht or RM526 after they pleaded guilty to charges of using methamphetamine.

They do not need to pay the fine because they have completed their imprisonment period of more than four months and behaved well in prison throughout the remand.

Meanwhile, Eridieka and Zuhaira were also fined the same amount after they previously pleaded guilty to two charges of entering Thailand illegally and without valid travel documents or passports.

One of the lawyers for all six defendants, Sufian Abdul Aziz,  said the prosecution can file an appeal against the decision within a month.

"For the time being, all six of my clients are still not allowed to be released and must remain in prison while waiting for the prosecution to file an appeal."

"If there are no appeals, they will be allowed to go home," he said.

It was earlier reported that Eda Ezrin, her husband, and four of their friends were charged with two counts of drug use and possession of 6,059 ecstasy pills at the Narathiwat District Court  on January 14.

They pleaded guilty to the charge of drug use but not guilty to the charge of possessing 6,059 ecstasy pills in a hotel in Sungai Golok near here.

During the trial proceedings on February 14, Eda Ezrin testified with the help of an interpreter that there were four individuals known as Nabila, Mek Jue, Mek Da, and Sirik who entered her room before the police conducted the raid. - March 6, 2024
