A CIVIL SERVANT has been arrested in relation to Operation Outlander, a crackdown targeting a syndicate involved in the fraudulent registration of late birth certificates (BC).
The individual is suspected of accepting bribes ranging from RM10,000 to RM15,000 for each birth certificate processed.
Sources from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) revealed that the civil servant was involved in assisting with late birth registration applications, particularly those where the birth was registered more than 60 days after the delivery date.
As part of the investigation, the MACC has frozen 11 bank accounts, amounting to a total of RM100,000, and seized 30 documents connected to the ongoing inquiry into the syndicate's operations.
Further information from sources also pointed to the involvement of a doctor who was arrested during the operation, and who is believed to have managed the birth registration documents.
“The investigation remains ongoing, and at present, no new arrests have been made,” sources told Bernama today.
On March 11, the MACC arrested 16 individuals, including a medical practitioner with the title ‘Datuk Seri’, for their suspected role in a corruption scheme that involved the fraudulent registration of non-citizens as Malaysian citizens using falsified documents.
MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects, aged between 20 and 70, were apprehended during coordinated raids at various premises, including clinics and law firms across the Klang Valley and Johor.
The raids followed nearly a year of intelligence-gathering, which was conducted in collaboration with the National Registration Department (NRD), with information sharing between the two agencies helping to uncover the full scale of the syndicate’s activities. – March 16, 2025
