THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded an agent at a vehicle inspection centre for allegedly accepting bribes to obtain queue numbers to expedite the vehicle inspection process without following the proper regulations.
A five-day remand order until March 25, 2025, against a male suspect in his 60s was issued by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin after an application was made by the MACC at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court today.
According to sources, the suspect is believed to have received bribes of around RM40,000 from vehicle owners who wanted to obtain queue numbers for the vehicle inspection process at a vehicle inspection centre.
"The arrest of this suspect is based on an operation conducted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in collaboration with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Putrajaya and the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (PUSPAKOM), involving an investigation into several individuals believed to be involved in a syndicate of agents to expedite the vehicle inspection process without following the proper regulations."
"Information from the JPJ Enforcement Division found that several individuals have abused the Puspakom inspection booking system by making bulk bookings using random vehicle numbers," said sources.
Sources said that the individuals involved will subsequently offer the booked dates to customers for hundreds of ringgit per inspection slot before rescheduling the dates to allow new applications to be entered into the system.
"This modus operandi causes regular customers to be unable to book inspection slots in the near future as the slots have been fully booked by agents," he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of Putrajaya MACC, Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. – March 21, 2025
