A CAR driver has been arrested after his vehicle was captured on video crashing into a motorcyclist who had sought shelter under an overpass on the emergency lane of the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway, just after the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza, on Sunday evening.

Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, Head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), confirmed that the incident was recorded in a nine-second video that went viral, showing the crash taking place at approximately 8:40pm.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcyclist, aged 76, had stopped in the emergency lane beneath the overpass to take shelter when the car collided with him from behind,” Sinar Harian cited him saying in a statement.

As a result of the accident, the elderly motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries and was immediately taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) by ambulance for further treatment.

Mohd Zamzuri added that the 40-year-old driver did not flee the scene. Instead, the driver came forward to file a police report at a traffic police station and was subsequently arrested.

“The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Anyone with information regarding the accident is urged to contact the Tun H S Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999, the JSPT Kuala Lumpur Hotline at 03-2026 0267 / 0269, or any nearby police station,” he said. – March 25, 2025
