THE Kedah state government is planning to introduce new regulations that could ban the ownership of aggressive dog breeds in residential areas, following a recent attack involving two Rottweilers.
The state’s Housing, Local Government, and Health Committee chairman Mansor Zakaria said the move comes after five people were attacked and bitten by the dogs in Taman Desa Bidara, Kuala Ketil, Baling, last Tuesday.
"I met with the dog owner and other relevant parties, and after discussions, the owner agreed to surrender the dogs to the Veterinary Office for them to be euthanised," Mansor said in a statement today.
“These aggressive breeds are not suitable for residential areas. This is the second such case, and this time five victims were involved – it is a very serious matter,” he added.
Mansor visited the victims, who are currently receiving treatment in both public and private hospitals. Their conditions are reported to be stable, though some have undergone surgery for severe injuries caused by the dog bites.
“Their injuries are quite severe, and they are also traumatised. They hope this case will be properly addressed, which is why we will draft guidelines to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future,” Mansor explained.
The attack occurred after the two Rottweilers allegedly escaped from their cage in the residential area, as previously reported by Bernama.
The Vibes.com earlier reported Kedah Veterinary Services Department Director Dr Shaharul Amar Talib confirming that both Rottweilers involved in the attack were euthanised yesterday. – April 3, 2025
