A 29-year-old local woman was found dead after she reportedly fell from the seventh floor of a multi-storey car park at a shopping mall in Bayan Lepas, Penang, on Saturday.
Barat Daya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said the victim, who was from Sungai Bakap, died at the scene from severe injuries sustained in the fall.
“The police received a report about the incident at 12.47 pm from an auxiliary police officer on duty in the area,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the woman fell from the seventh level of the southern car park area of the mall, and her body was discovered near the mall’s loading bay.
Personal belongings believed to belong to the victim were found in a Honda City car parked at the premises.
“A supermarket worker who witnessed the incident informed police that he saw the victim falling around 12.44 pm while he was driving toward the loading bay,” Sazalee said.
He added that the woman had left her home around 9 am that morning and last communicated with her family at noon, saying she planned to go out to buy food.
The body was taken to the Forensic Department of Balik Pulau Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which confirmed the cause of death as multiple injuries consistent with a fall from height.
“The case has been classified as sudden death (SDR), but further investigations are ongoing,” Sazalee said.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has relevant video footage to come forward to assist in the investigation. - May 6, 2025
