THE lorry driver who was involved in an accident that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) members yesterday has been remanded for four days starting today.

The remand order against the 45-year-old suspect was issued by Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman after an application was made by Hilir Perak District Police Chief Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin in Teluk Intan, today.

Bakri said his presence in court this morning reflected the seriousness of the police in investigating the incident, which is being done under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"We will continue the investigation looking at aspects of human negligence, technical and also environmental issues that can assist the investigation.

"From social media, I have monitored many public witnesses who actually saw what happened before and during the incident.

"So, I am asking the community, especially the Hilir Perak people to help, to channel information that can assist our investigation," he told the media after completing the remand application today.

At the same time, he called on the public who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting him personally at 017-8211326 or the Hilir Perak IPD.

According to Bakri, further investigations will involve technical agencies such as Puspakom, the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Public Works Department (JKR) to examine aspects of vehicle safety and road conditions.

The lorry owner will also be called to give a statement soon. – May 14, 2025
