MEMBERS of Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), the youth wing of Malaysia’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), must view their involvement as a political platform to actively contribute to national development, said its chief, Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
Addressing delegates at the AMK National Congress 2024/2025 themed ‘Membangun MADANI, Menuju Reformasi’ (Building a MADANI Society, Towards Reform), Adam urged members to go beyond merely addressing youth-centric issues and instead adopt a more proactive stance in shaping the country's future.
“Not holding a position is not an issue – titles do not guarantee anything,” he said. “Many hold positions but that does not always equate to meaningful contributions. Reflect on what we can offer, big or small. This is my challenge to you – do not wait for instructions or for a post to be handed to you.”
He added, “We must approach things in unexpected ways. I hope we can earnestly continue advocacy work, think about new policies and strategies, and create vital discourses, especially those concerning the future of our youth.”
The congress was also attended by PKR Vice-President Nurul Izzah Anwar and AMK Deputy Chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, who serves as Political Secretary to the Minister of Finance.
Adam, who also serves as the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, emphasised the importance of equipping AMK members with global knowledge to ensure their relevance and effectiveness in all arenas.
“We are now the youth wing of the ruling party... conventionally, the primary role of political parties is to win elections. That remains a fundamental task, but as the governing party, our responsibilities now go far beyond competing and winning elections,” he said.
“This is the beginning of a much larger duty – to fill that victory with genuine efforts to develop this nation and its people, to fulfil not only electoral promises but also the broader responsibilities and expectations entrusted to us.”
The Hang Tuah Jaya MP also underscored the need for AMK to actively train its members to become future leaders.
“Identify hidden talents, organise discussions, and teach them the values and history of the party. Do not be content with simply having large followings. Instead, strive to fill their hearts with the party's spirit,” he said.
“We must emerge as a beacon of hope for the people who seek justice. This is the quality we must always uphold, so that public confidence in us remains strong.”
Adam concluded by revealing that AMK’s current membership has surpassed 260,000 members, spanning over 190 branches nationwide. - May 23, 2025
