THE Kuala Lumpur High Court has fixed 8 July 2025 for its decision on the amount of damages to be awarded to Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor in her defamation suit against a TikTok account holder.
Rosmah, the wife of former Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, was granted a default judgment on 28 May last year after the defendant, Ku Muhammad Hilmie Ku Din, 35, failed to file a memorandum of appearance within the stipulated time.
Her lawyer, Datuk Abu Bakar Isa Ramat, confirmed that Justice Datuk Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh set the date during a remote hearing held via Zoom earlier today. “During the hearing, the court raised a legal question, and plaintiff’s counsel Mohamed Baharudeen Mohamed Ariff applied for time to submit a brief written argument in response,” he said.
The written submissions are to be filed within two weeks, with the decision on damages scheduled for early July.
Rosmah, 73, filed the suit on 19 September 2023, alleging that Ku Muhammad Hilmie uploaded a defamatory video to his TikTok account on 22 March 2023.
According to the statement of claim, the video contained false and malicious allegations that implied she had committed sinful acts and was involved in activities related to satanic rituals, witchcraft, and sorcery, suggesting she was an evil person engaged in polytheistic practices.
She argued that the defamatory content tarnished her public image as the sixth Prime Minister’s wife and the patron of various charitable organisations, causing her to be ridiculed, insulted, and held in contempt by the public.
Rosmah is seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages, as well as any other relief deemed appropriate by the court. - May 27, 2025
