TENGKU Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has announced he is leaving Umno and will join PKR.

The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister made the announcement on social media tonight.

He said he is vacating his seat on the Umno supreme council as well as his position as its Kota Raja division chief.

“I have submitted my resignation letter to the top leadership of Umno,” he said in a Facebook post.

He said the decision was not easy and came after extensive reflection and consultation with colleagues inside and outside the party, including Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He also disclosed that he had informed the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leadership of his intention to join the party.

“I will follow the common application process to become a PKR member,” said Tengku Zafrul, who has been in Umno since 1998.

His term as a senator will end in December 2025.

Tengku Zafrul also thanked everyone who had supported him during his time in Umno. – May 30, 2025
