MANY people today see political parties as a personal platform, with some using Umno as a springboard for their own agenda.

However, Umno Treasurer, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said Umno has never forced any individual to join the party.

He explained that Umno stands on the principle of genuine struggle and does not need the support of any individual.

He added that leaders can come and go, but the foundation and spirit of Umno's struggle must continue to be defended by all its members.

"We need to realize that what is more important now is to reunite for strength, strengthen the party machinery, and rebuild the people's confidence in Umno as a platform for real struggle.

"Be assured that sincere struggle for the sake of Allah SWT will always be blessed and pleased.

"Despite the various trials and betrayals that have occurred, the sincere spirit of the members will be the backbone of this party's resilience," he said via his Facebook page, today.

The post follows Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz’s departure from Umno and his intention to join PKR recently.

Tengku Zafrul resigned from all his positions and memberships in Umno, which was confirmed by party president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Meanwhile, Tengku Adnan said that Tengku Zafrul's decision was made in Malaysia's increasingly open and diverse political landscape, and that Umno members who are still loyal must remain steadfast in continuing the struggle.

He stressed that Umno is not an individual party and not built on the basis of current popularity, but rather exists on the basis of a struggle for the sake of religion, race and country.

He said that the party was formed with the spirit of national unity to defend the fate of the people and the dignity of a sovereign country.

Therefore, he said, understanding and appreciating Umno's struggle will make its members more determined and steadfast in continuing the legacy of the struggle. – June 3, 2025
