ABDUL Raof Mokhtar has assumed the role of acting chief of the Kota Raja UMNO division, following the resignation of Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin confirmed.

Abdul Raof, who previously held the post of deputy chief, will now lead the division in an acting capacity until the next UMNO party election.

“Automatically, the deputy chief of the Kota Raja UMNO Division will act in the position of division chief,” Megat Zulkarnain said during a press conference after officiating the Wanita, Youth and Puteri Selangor UMNO 2025 Delegates Meeting held at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam on Monday night.

He added that the official notification would be submitted to UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for deliberation at the Supreme Council meeting.

The leadership change follows Tengku Zafrul’s announcement on 30 May that he was resigning from UMNO and expressing his intention to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). In a statement on Facebook, Tengku Zafrul said he had tendered his resignation from all party positions, including as a Supreme Council member and Kota Raja UMNO division chief.

Despite the political shift, Megat Zulkarnain affirmed that his personal friendship with Tengku Zafrul remains intact and urged UMNO members in Selangor to stay focused and continue working towards the party’s goals.

A total of 1,248 delegates representing the state party’s three wings attended the Selangor UMNO event. - June 11, 2025
