A THREE-year-old girl was found drowned after she is believed to have fallen into an irrigation canal in Kampung Kundur, Bukit Kenak, near Besut in Kelantan, yesterday evening.

The victim, Intan Inara Mohammad Hariz Husaini, had reportedly been playing alone behind her grandmother’s house when the tragic incident occurred.

Besut District Police Chief, Superintendent Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu, said the authorities received a report of the incident at 8.53pm.

"At approximately 6pm, the victim is said to have exited through the back door of her grandmother’s house and was playing on her own without anyone noticing.

"The child was found floating in the irrigation canal by her uncle, around 300 metres from the house, at about 6.10pm. She was rushed to Besut Hospital but was pronounced dead," Bernama cited him saying in a statement today.

Azamuddin noted that the grandmother’s house is situated roughly 70 metres from the irrigation canal.

A post-mortem examination was carried out earlier today, and the case is currently classified as a sudden death. - June 17, 2025
