A 17-YEAR-old boy was brought before the Ayer Keroh Magistrates’ Court today to face charges of murdering his mother and elder brother, and grievously injuring his younger sibling in a shocking incident on 12 June.

The teenager is accused of causing the deaths of his 51-year-old mother and 21-year-old brother at their home on Jalan RM3, Taman Rambai Mutiara, Melaka Tengah, between 5 and 5.30am.

The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, carries the mandatory death penalty or, if not imposed, a prison term of 30 to 40 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.

No plea was recorded for the murder charges, which fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The charges were read in Mandarin by the court interpreter.

The teen also faces a separate charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a weapon, after allegedly stabbing his 15-year-old younger brother with a folding knife during the same incident. He pleaded not guilty to this charge.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Nabihah Sofian led the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Cassian Anthony. No bail was offered.

Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani fixed 24 July for mention of the case.

On 12 June, local media reported that a woman and her eldest son were found dead, while her youngest son sustained serious stab wounds, believed to be inflicted by the teenage suspect. The victims were discovered lying in the living room, covered in blood.

Police arrested the accused outside the house, reportedly in a dazed state. A blood-stained 20-centimetre folding knife, believed to be the weapon used, was found in a school bag near the scene. - June 18, 2025
