A THREE-month-old baby boy is believed to have died after being pinned under his father's arm when the man suddenly suffered a heart attack at their home in Jalan Perigi Hang in Melaka today.
The tragic incident, which occurred at 9.30am, was discovered by his wife, Azura Abdul Malik, 40, who had returned home from work to take the youngest of the three siblings, Muhammad Nur Daniel Nurul Effendy, to get an injection at the health clinic.
Azura said that upon arriving home, she was shocked to see her baby under the arm of her husband, Nurul Effendy Ibrahim, 35, who was unconscious at the time.
"I was shocked because there was no blood, when I entered the bedroom, I saw both of them on the bed unconscious.
"I found my husband unconscious and our baby, who was still breathing at that time, pinned under his arm. However, our baby looked very weak and pale," said the woman who works as an administrative assistant at the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB).
She immediately called her sister-in-law for help, and they rushed the baby to the Emergency and Trauma Department at the Melaka Hospital.
The man's sister, Masturadiana, aged 33, said her brother had complained of chest pain the previous day but refused to seek medical attention.
"At the time of the incident, I was at my house opposite my brother's. Around 9.30am, my sister-in-law knocked repeatedly on my door asking for help.
"She said the baby was unconscious and had turned blue after being pinned under my brother's arm. I immediately told her to take the baby to the hospital and asked the others to call an ambulance to check on my brother," she said.
Unfortunately, the baby, who is the couple’s youngest child was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
The husband was also declared dead from a heart attack.
Meanwhile, the Bukit Katil Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander, Senior Fire Officer (PBK) ll Mohd Supian Md. Dali said they received an emergency call from the hospital at 9.58am.
According to him, it was reported that a male victim in his 30s had died at the house and his baby had also died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
"The team inspected the residence in case there was a gas leak, but further investigations found that the victim may have died from a heart attack, and assistance from the Hazardous Chemicals (Hazmat) Special Team was called off," he said. – June 19, 2025
