A PROMINENT businessman bearing the title Tan Sri was questioned for over seven hours by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Thursday, in connection with the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds tied to a highway project.

Officers from the MACC arrived at the individual’s residence at 9.10am and departed in a Toyota Vios around 4.34pm, marking the third time this month that his statement has been recorded.

According to MACC sources, the questioning is part of a continuing investigation into financial irregularities involving sukuk bonds linked to the construction and management of a highway.

The businessman had previously been interviewed on 11 and 12 June.

Security was visibly tight at the premises, with auxiliary police stationed in the area and traffic cones set up to prevent public access. The commission's Tactical Operations Team (ACTS) was also reportedly deployed amid suspicions that weapons may be stored on the premises.

Earlier this week, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the agency was resuming its efforts to record a full statement from the individual.

No official charges have yet been filed, but investigations are ongoing. - June 19, 2025
