POLICE have launched an investigation into an elderly woman seen driving a Proton X50 along the motorcycle lane of the Penang Second Bridge, after footage of the incident went viral on social media.

Seberang Perai Selatan District Police Chief, Superintendent Jay January Siowou, confirmed that the 70-year-old local woman had been identified by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and brought to the district police headquarters for further action.

“Initial investigations revealed the incident took place at Kilometre 8.6 of the Penang Second Bridge, or Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge (JSAHMS), heading from Batu Kawan towards Batu Maung at around 1.30pm yesterday,” he said in a statement.

Based on the findings, police have opened an investigation paper under Rule 8(3) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN166/59) for the offence of using a non-designated lane.

The six-second video, which has been widely circulated online, shows the Proton X50 being driven along the dedicated motorcycle lane on the bridge, raising safety concerns and drawing widespread public attention. - June 22, 2025
