POLICE have confirmed that the individual seen attempting to remove the ignition key from a motorcycle ridden by two teenagers in a viral video was a police officer carrying out his official duties.
Deputy Mersing District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Hasrudi Mohd Zain, said the incident took place near a traffic light close to Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Endau, Mersing.
“The officer involved was attempting to inspect a motorcycle ridden by two males believed to be school students. The motorcycle had no number plate, appeared to be modified, and was emitting excessive exhaust noise,” he explained in a statement on Sunday.

“The inspection was conducted under Section 58(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 24(1)(b) of the Police Act 1967,” he said.
