POLICE are awaiting official confirmation from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on allegations that a politician in the Philippines financed a chartered jet found carrying 521kg of drugs after departing Malaysia.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said Malaysian police had shared information identifying two Filipino nationals who made the flight booking and would cooperate with their Philippine counterparts.
“We have identified the two individuals who made the booking. They are Filipino nationals who are there. So, on the Royal Malaysia Police’s part, we will cooperate with the PDEA.
“We are still waiting for official confirmation on whether the syndicate involved a politician in the Philippines. What we have heard so far is based on reports by journalists in that country,” he said at a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters today.
Yesterday, PDEA spokesman Joseph Frederick Calulut was reported as saying that a politician from Mindanao in the southern Philippines had allegedly financed the rental of the private jet.
He was also reported to have said investigators had confirmed that the individual provided the funds to finance the flight. - October 16, 2026
