A MOTION from UMNO’s Sembrong division to revoke the suspension of Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein will be submitted to the party leadership for review and consideration, according to UMNO Vice-President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Describing it as part of the party’s regular internal processes, Mohamed Khaled said, “This is one of many motions brought forth during the UMNO divisional meeting season. It is just one motion among those from 191 divisions nationwide.”
He added, “As with others, this motion will be submitted to UMNO Headquarters to be studied and assessed before any decision is made.”
The proposal was made during the Sembrong division’s delegates meeting on Saturday, where delegates, through their division chief Datuk Abdul Ghani Abdul Rashid, urged for the unconditional and immediate lifting of Hishammuddin’s suspension. The former Defence Minister and current Sembrong MP was previously a prominent party leader.
Mohamed Khaled, who is also Malaysia’s Defence Minister, acknowledged that although Hishammuddin had not formally appealed his suspension, the leadership would still evaluate the motion.
“There is now a motion on the matter, and UMNO will consider the motion itself, not the individual,” he said after officiating the Batu Pahat UMNO division’s delegates meeting, attended by its chief, Zaidi Japar.
Addressing a broader point, Mohamed Khaled said UMNO must undergo a political culture shift to align with contemporary demands and public expectations.
“We need to build future national leadership—not just leadership for the party. UMNO must evolve its political culture to match the present era, focusing on the people's agenda and current issues, rather than past nostalgia,” he stressed. - June 22, 2025
