A NINE-year-old girl has died in what police believe may be a case of fatal child abuse, after she was brought to a private hospital in Bandar Melaka earlier today with serious injuries.

The child, who was taken to the hospital by her stepfather in his 30s, was found by medical staff to have suffered multiple injuries consistent with abuse, according to a source quoted by Berita Harian.

“The victim was found to have a broken leg and bruises on her head and body. She was pronounced dead while being treated in the hospital’s emergency ward,” the source said.

The hospital subsequently alerted the police at approximately 10am.

State Criminal Investigation Department Chief, Assistant Commissioner Leow Kian Heong, confirmed the incident when contacted but declined to comment further, stating that the case remains under active investigation.

The victim’s body has since been transferred to the Forensic Department at Hospital Melaka for a post-mortem examination. - June 23, 2025
