PAS has expressed regret over remarks made by a local party leader who questioned the recent appointment of Datuk Johny Lim Eng Seng as a Lieutenant General in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), warning that disciplinary action may be taken.
PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the views expressed by Zaharuddin Muhammad, the PAS Sungai Buloh division chief, did not represent the party and were contrary to its constitution and principles.
"The attitude of racism in any form or shade has no place in PAS, and it is incompatible with the broader national culture and aspirations of this country," Takiyuddin said in a statement on Wednesday.
He added that Datuk Johny Lim’s appointment should be seen as a historic milestone to be celebrated by all Malaysians, not questioned or diminished on the basis of his ethnic background.
Earlier, Zaharuddin had publicly questioned(pic- below) Lim’s promotion to the high-ranking military post solely because of his Chinese heritage, as reported by local media.
Takiyuddin further noted that the achievements and progress of any Malaysian in any field should be seen as cause for national pride, not as a source of division.
"In light of this, PAS will continue to remind its members to remain prudent and cautious in their actions," he said.
"Therefore, PAS will not hesitate to take disciplinary measures against any member who breaches party discipline, including through insensitive behaviour that undermines national unity and stokes disharmony or suspicion within society," he added. - June 26, 2025
