POLICE in Sepang are analysing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in an effort to locate the suspect behind the murder of a 20-year-old university student in Cyberjaya, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her condominium earlier this week.
District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman confirmed that the footage obtained from multiple sources, including ATMs, is being reviewed to narrow down the suspect's movements and identify him.
“The footage will be used to identify the suspect and narrow down his location,” he told the New Straits Times on Wednesday.
Investigators believe the suspect withdrew money using the victim’s bank card following her death.
“Police detected five to six ATM transactions made in the city shortly after the incident,” Norhizam said, adding that most ATM machines are equipped with CCTV to deter fraud and criminal activity, potentially capturing clear images of the perpetrator.
The young woman was discovered unconscious in her condominium unit in Cyberjaya on Tuesday morning and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We received a report regarding the incident at 10.28am the same day. The victim, aged 20, was found unconscious and later confirmed dead at the location,” Norhizam said in a statement issued Thursday.
He noted that initial checks found no signs of forced entry into the residence, though the victim had suffered head injuries.
“A preliminary examination found no evidence of a break-in at the unit. However, the victim sustained injuries to the head,” he said.
The body was sent to the Forensics Unit of Hospital Serdang, where a post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. There were no signs of sexual assault.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Police are appealing for public assistance in the investigation. “Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact Investigating Officer ASP Mohd Husny Hussien at 012-9307860 or to report to the nearest police station,” Norhizam said.
Authorities have also urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information that could jeopardise the ongoing investigation, as a manhunt for the suspect continues. - June 26, 2025
