AUSTRALIA is eager to partner with Sarawak on sustainable energy development, particularly through technical collaboration and knowledge-sharing, recognising the state’s forward-thinking initiatives in shaping a low-carbon future.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, said the interest was conveyed by Australian Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations, Robyn Cahill, during a courtesy visit on Wednesday.

“The meeting centred on potential areas of collaboration between Sarawak and Australia in the field of energy and environmental sustainability,” he said in a statement.

Hazland outlined key policy frameworks guiding Sarawak’s green transition, including the Sarawak Energy Transition Roadmap (SET-P), the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030 (SSB), and the Sarawak Hydrogen Economy Roadmap (SHER).

“These roadmaps serve as the foundation for the state’s journey towards a green economy,” he said.

The discussion also covered prospects for capacity building, academic-industry partnerships, and pilot programmes in areas such as hydrogen production, carbon capture, and nature-based climate solutions.

“The meeting marks another step forward in strengthening Sarawak’s global ties in environmental sustainability and reaffirms the state’s commitment to international cooperation in addressing climate and energy challenges,” Hazland added. - June 26, 2025
