UMNO is in the process of refining its statutory declaration (SD) documents, to be signed by candidates contesting the upcoming Sabah state election, in light of current political developments.

UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party is updating the template used in the last general election to reflect today’s political climate, with input from its legal team, including UMNO Information Chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

“For the Sabah state election, we will use the same template but with improvements based on the current situation. So far, we feel the statutory declaration used in the last general election is still sufficient,” Bernama quoted him saying.

Dr Asyraf was speaking to reporters after officiating the UMNO Machang Division Delegates’ Meeting 2025, held at the Pusat Transformasi Ilmu in Bukit Tiu last night. The event was also attended by Kelantan UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub. The current five-year term of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly is set to expire automatically on 11 November, paving the way for the 17th state election. - June 28, 2025
