MALAYSIA is in urgent need of skilled professionals and technical experts in electrical engineering, renewable energy, grid infrastructure, and nuclear technology, in line with the government's strategic push towards a sustainable energy future.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who also serves as Minister for Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said career opportunities in these fields are expanding rapidly across both public and high-technology private sectors.

“The government foresees nuclear energy playing a more prominent role in the country’s energy mix and is seriously exploring it as a strategic option to secure long-term energy sustainability for future generations,” Bernama quoted him saying during a meeting with Malaysians in Russia last night.

Fadillah explained that the visit to Russia offered an opportunity to study nuclear power plant technologies, safety protocols, and operational models that could be adapted for use in Malaysia.

The gathering was attended by 150 students and members of the Deputy Prime Minister’s delegation.

He emphasised that energy and water security are vital pillars in Malaysia’s aspiration to become a developed nation, and noted that both sectors featured significantly in recent bilateral talks with Russian authorities.

“Investors have shown strong interest in Malaysia’s energy sector, particularly in high-tech and sustainable innovations,” he said.

Fadillah also underlined that sustained political stability is essential to drive economic growth and attract foreign direct investment. - June 28, 2025
