Singapore heightens security in response to Iran-Israel tensions

SINGAPORE has raised its security alert level in response to ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs K. Shanmugam has confirmed.

“There is a ceasefire, but we don’t know exactly what will happen after this,” he told reporters during a community event on Saturday, as quoted by The Straits Times.

While there have been no detected threats within Singapore following recent United States air strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, Shanmugam warned that potential risks remain.

“There could be attacks from extremist individuals or organisations targeting Israeli, American or other Western assets. Likewise, far-right groups could also target Muslim assets,” he said.

As such, the government has implemented heightened security measures and is preparing for a range of scenarios.

“We have increased our security posture, working off different scenarios, but you know, you can never be absolutely sure,” he said.

Despite the current absence of concrete threats, Shanmugam emphasised the need for constant vigilance. “They need to succeed only once,” he remarked, underlining the persistent and unpredictable nature of extremist activity.

Singapore maintains a firm stance on safeguarding public safety and continues to collaborate with international partners to monitor developments in the region. - June 28, 2025
