THE East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) has achieved RM6.4 billion in realised investments in the first half of 2025, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today, reflecting strong investor confidence and effective facilitation efforts.
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, noted that ECERDC’s performance has already exceeded its annual committed investment target of RM10 billion, with RM10.4 billion in investments secured thus far. Over 2,800 new job opportunities have also been created in the region to date.
He shared the update following his attendance at an ECERDC meeting focused on tracking progress and reviewing strategic priorities for the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) under the forthcoming 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13).
“I have emphasised the importance of incorporating long-term national interests in all investment decisions, including a focus on technology transfer and skill development,” he said in a Facebook post.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that eight strategic, high-impact projects are slated for completion by the end of the year as part of ECER’s development blueprint. He called for the council to sustain its momentum through efficient, proactive facilitation to reinforce the East Coast’s status as a competitive investment destination at both national and international levels.
Separately, Anwar stressed that the newly launched Kota MADANI development project represents a comprehensive urban initiative rooted in the values of the MADANI government and aimed at addressing housing challenges for civil servants.
“This is not an ordinary housing project,” he said during an engagement with staff of the Prime Minister’s Department. “It offers exceptional comfort and access to nearby amenities such as a school, mosque, gymnasium and playground – a truly modern township underpinned by the MADANI philosophy.”
The RM4 billion Kota MADANI project in Precinct 19, Putrajaya, will be developed by Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PjH) under a public-private partnership via a build, lease, maintain and transfer (BLMT) model, ensuring no immediate burden on government finances.
Once complete, Kota MADANI will offer 10,000 high-density residential units capable of housing more than 30,000 residents, along with vertical schools and extensive public facilities. The first phase is scheduled to commence in September and be completed by end-2027.
Anwar also praised Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) for its success in repairing nearly 98 per cent of damaged civil servant quarters to date, while acknowledging continued high demand for public housing.
He condemned politically driven criticism of the project and called on both civil servants and the public to support the long-term vision behind the initiative.
“This is a well-planned solution that respects fiscal responsibility while meeting the real needs of the people,” he said. - June 30, 2025
