THE closure of Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) headquarters in Solaris Dutamas earlier this year has not disrupted the coalition’s administrative operations, according to senior party leaders.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Vice-President of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), described the matter as routine and clarified that party operations are ongoing.

“We still have officers on duty. I personally continue to receive updates from the headquarters. That proves things are functioning as usual,” he told reporters on Saturday during the Bersatu Tambun Division Annual Conference in Ipoh.

He attributed the closure to the expiry of a two-year tenancy agreement in April, which was not renewed by mutual consent.

“Each time we rent an office, there’s a fixed lease period. When that period ends and is not extended, it’s not a major issue. I believe this has already been discussed,” he added.

In response to rumours that the coalition failed to pay rent on the premises, Ahmad Faizal dismissed the allegations as baseless.

“I thank the media for their concern over PN. Our executive secretary is still healthy, sane, and in regular contact with us,” he quipped.

PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali later issued a formal statement confirming the closure, explaining that the lease had ended and both landlord and tenant had agreed not to renew.

“The matter was discussed and agreed upon by PN’s top leadership,” he said, adding that daily administrative duties continue uninterrupted at a temporary location while a new headquarters is being prepared.

Azmin also refuted media claims that PN had defaulted on rental payments, calling the reports “irresponsible and unfounded.”

The matter surfaced following a report by a local news portal, which cited unnamed party sources alleging that PN had vacated the Solaris Dutamas premises without notice or continued rent payment since March.

Adding to initial confusion, PN Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin had told reporters he was unaware of the details, advising the media to await official clarification.

Ahmad Faizal, who also chairs Bersatu Perak and heads the Tambun division, said strengthening the party remains a core focus ahead of its General Assembly in September.

“Among the key motions are efforts to improve our internal operations and ensure party loyalty as we prepare for upcoming elections,” he said. - July 6, 2025
