A 15-MONTH-OLD girl has died from suspected physical abuse, allegedly at the hands of her biological mother and the woman’s boyfriend, at a shop premises in Bandar Satelit, Pulau Sebang on Sunday night.

The toddler was brought to Tampin Hospital in an unconscious state by her 24-year-old mother at around 11pm. Medical staff, upon examination, discovered bruises on her abdomen, back and anus, prompting the hospital to alert police.

According to a police source, preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had taken her only child from their home in Kampung Anak Air Durian Daun Pondoi, Tampin, to visit her boyfriend, a 20-year-old musician, at his workplace in Pulau Sebang at approximately 6.30pm.

The woman later left the child in the man’s care while she went out to buy food. She claimed to have put her daughter to bed at 10pm, while her boyfriend managed the shop.

She further alleged that when she attempted to wake the child at 10.30pm to return home, the toddler was unresponsive. The couple rushed the child to hospital, but she was declared dead soon after arrival.

The body was transferred to the Forensic Unit at Tampin Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Melaka Criminal Investigation Department Chief, Assistant Commissioner Leow Kian Heong, confirmed the incident when contacted by Harian Metro.

He said both the mother and her boyfriend are being held and will be remanded at the Alor Gajah Magistrate’s Court to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - July 7, 2025
