THE repair and reconstruction work on houses destroyed and damaged due to the gas pipe explosion incident in Putra Heights last April is currently at a progress level of between 22 and 24 percent.

Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, said the work involves 81 houses that were destroyed and 138 houses that were damaged in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru and is expected to be completed this October.

“For the houses in Taman Putra Harmoni, the completion period is set for 24 months, which is until June 2027,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session today.

According to him, the implementation of the repair work involves an allocation of RM40 million that has been approved by the Cabinet, in addition to RM6 million to improve public infrastructure.

“Syarikat Perumahan Nasional Berhad (SPNB) has been tasked by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government to manage the repair and reconstruction of houses in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru.

“All this work commenced since May 1,” he said.

The Cabinet has also decided that Sime Darby Property, as the original developer, be given the responsibility to rebuild and repair the affected houses in the area.

“So far, based on the Ecosystem Assessment Unit Test (UPE) for the reconstruction in Taman Putra Harmoni, three units will be rebuilt, while 46 units will be repaired and the remaining 46 units are currently in the final process of crack and structural testing.

“As for Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, 17 units are involved; of that total, 11 units will be rebuilt while six more units will be repaired,” he said. – July 8, 2025
