IN a heartfelt appeal to the Indian community, Gunaraj George, State Assemblyman for Sentosa has urged Indian leaders from across the political spectrum to unite for the future of their community.
“My appeal is to all Indian leaders as I strongly believe the time for unity is now or never,” Gunaraj declared, speaking “not as a politician, not as a member of any party, but as a son of this community, a brother to every Indian Malaysian who wakes up every morning hoping for a better tomorrow.”
"We are running out of time.”
Despite Indian leaders holding positions in both government and the opposition, Gunaraj lamented that “our voice remains fragmented, reactive, and too often lost in finger-pointing and petty squabbles.”
He challenged these leaders, saying: “When was the last time all Indian leaders sat together and submitted a unified proposal to the Prime Minister? When was the last time we chose constructive courage over performative outrage?
“When did we last stop asking what’s wrong and started declaring, with one voice, what’s right and what we demand?”
As the government prepares to unveil the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), Gunaraj warned against division, saying: “I see some already sharpening their knives, ready to attack and discredit even before the plan is announced. I say enough!”
He stressed that this is about more than just the plan, insisting the community must “show up united or divided, whether they speak as a community that knows what it wants, or one that will again be passed over because it couldn’t get their act together.”
He is unequivocal about what is not needed: “We don’t need more press conferences for the cameras. We don’t need more social media warriors. We don’t need more leaders building brands instead of building solutions.”
“Instead, what is urgently required is “unity, courage and leadership.
Gunaraj appealed directly to all Indian elected representatives, such as NGO leaders, professionals, and influencers throughout Malaysia calling for them to urge the leaders to convene a Malaysian Indian Unity Roundtable within the next fourteen days.
He said the viable aim is to draft a single, united Indian Memorandum with real, actionable demands to present to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim—a Prime Minister who has shown he is prepared to listen, but must be given the opportunity to hear the community collectively—and stand together before RMK-13.
Gunaraj stressed the urgency of the moment: “If we fail to do this now, we may not get another chance for a long time.”
He reminded the Indian community that “this is a defining moment, not just for the leaders, but for the future of every young Indian Malaysian child wondering if we still matter in the national conversation.”
Gunaraj added a powerful call, stating: “We can no longer afford to be spectators in our own future. We must be authors of our own destiny. The time for bold, united, and selfless leadership is now. I am ready to stand shoulder to shoulder. Are you?” - July 10, 2025
