Driver injured after luxury MPV plunges into river in Alor Setar
Firefighters successfully extricated the victim and moved him to a safe location for initial treatment - July 16, 2025

A LUXURY multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) plunged into a river alongside Jalan Ban Telaga Bata near Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB) last night, leaving the 41-year-old male driver with minor injuries.

The Kedah Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre (PGO) said it received a distress call regarding the incident at 8.01pm.

In a statement, it said a team of firefighters from the Alor Setar Fire and Rescue Station, led by Senior Fire Officer II Roslan Saad, was dispatched to the scene along with six personnel.

“PGO Kedah received an emergency call via the MERS 999 line reporting that a Toyota Alphard had veered off the road and fallen into the river,” the statement read.

“Firefighters successfully extricated the victim and moved him to a safe location for initial treatment.”

The man, who sustained only light injuries, was transported to HSB for further medical care via an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle. - July 16, 2025
