THE Kelantan police are maintaining close watch on several social media influencers and cosmetic entrepreneurs from the state suspected of involvement in narcotics activities, with further arrests anticipated in the near future.
Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, confirmed ongoing investigations into the matter, stating that enforcement action will be taken against any individuals found guilty, irrespective of their public profile or social standing.
“Several social media influencers and cosmetics product founders from this state remain under police surveillance due to suspected links to drug-related activity,” he told Berita Harian.
“God willing, there will be new arrests soon. Those involved in drug activities will be identified and apprehended one by one.
“We are not only focusing on influencers or cosmetic founders—distributors and the main masterminds behind these networks will not be spared either,” he added.
The warning follows a more aggressive police clampdown on drug syndicates in Kelantan over the past few months, amid rising concerns about cross-border trafficking and local distribution networks.
Since the beginning of the year, Kelantan police have conducted a series of high-impact operations, including *Ops Taring Wawasan*, which has led to large-scale arrests and significant drug seizures involving ketum leaves, methamphetamine (syabu), and ecstasy pills.
Raids have also uncovered creative drug smuggling attempts across the Malaysia-Thailand border, with contraband concealed in frozen meat shipments and livestock enclosures.
Police say efforts will continue to target all layers of the drug distribution hierarchy, from visible public figures to the less conspicuous players orchestrating these illicit operations. - July 18, 2025
