FOUR areas—two each in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan—recorded unhealthy levels of air pollution this morning, according to data from the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).

As of 9am, the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading was recorded in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, at 156, followed closely by Johan Setia, Selangor, at 155. Other locations with unhealthy readings included Port Dickson (153) and Banting (151).

“An API reading above 100 is considered unhealthy and may pose health risks, especially for vulnerable groups,” noted the Department of Environment.

Meanwhile, 58 of the 68 monitoring stations nationwide recorded moderate air quality levels. These included Putrajaya (99), Temerloh in Pahang (98), Petaling Jaya in Selangor (88), Bukit Rambai in Melaka (85), and Tasek Ipoh in Perak (79).

Six stations registered good air quality with readings between 37 and 49. These included IPD Serian, Sibu, Samarahan, and Sri Aman in Sarawak, along with Tawau and Kimanis in Sabah.

The Air Pollutant Index is categorised as follows: 0–50 (good), 51–100 (moderate), 101–200 (unhealthy), 201–300 (very unhealthy), and above 300 (hazardous). API readings are updated hourly based on data from 68 stations across the country. - July 20, 2025
