THREE men, including two higher education students, were fined a total of RM11,000 by the Magistrates’ Court here on Sunday after pleading guilty to possessing same-sex pornographic images and videos on their mobile phones.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Wan Mohd Izzat Wan Abdullah, imposed a RM4,000 fine each on Muhammad Al Azamuddin Al Fadzil, 22, from Setiawan, Perak, and Mohamad Syahmi Firas Mohd Jurij, 27, from Bachok, Kelantan. A third individual, Mohd Hanafi Ibrahim, 47, who is unemployed, was fined RM3,000.
The offences were committed at around 1.15am on 18 June at a residence in Jalan Kemumin, Kampung Pulau Belacang, Panchor.
The charges were brought under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which criminalises the possession of obscene materials and carries a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutors Muhammad Nadzir Abdullah and Nur Haziqah Hassan led the prosecution, while all three accused were represented by lawyer Chong Yin Xin.
“My first client, Mohd Hanafi, underwent brain surgery in 2016 due to a neurological condition and is now financially supported by his sister,” Chong told the court. “Muhammad Al Azamuddin is a first-year university student, and Mohamad Syahmi Firas is in his final year at an institution of higher learning.”
The court also ordered that each man face six months’ imprisonment should they fail to pay the fines. All three paid the fines and were subsequently released.
The case stemmed from a police raid last month at a bungalow in Kemumin, Pengkalan Chepa, believed to have been used for a gathering of over 20 men. Authorities conducted surveillance prior to the 1am raid, which revealed the residence was allegedly being used as a gathering spot for the group. - July 20, 2025
