“MY late husband loved helping his family, his in-laws, and everyone. He was a good man,” said Nur Azhanis Mohd Yusoff, 36, widow of Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, who was killed after being rammed by a robbery suspect in Taman Golf yesterday.

Nur Azhanis, a private sector employee, said her final conversation with her husband was the night before the incident. He had come home late from work, by which time she was already asleep, preparing for work the next morning.

“Yesterday, before the incident, he went to fetch our child from school. That was his daily routine, no matter how busy he was with work,” Harian Metro cited her saying in a tearful voice. “Our children loved him dearly. They still don’t quite understand what has happened.”

Speaking at the Forensic Department of Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah last night, she described her late husband as a kind and devoted man—both as a father and as a son.

“There were no signs he was about to leave us forever,” she said. “He once told me he was nervous about his new posting with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), as he had previously served in the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB).”

The couple had been married for 12 years and have three children, aged between four and eleven. Corporal Hafizul had served 15 years with the Kedah Police Contingent.

His remains are expected to be laid to rest in his hometown of Setiu, Terengganu, later today.

Earlier reports confirmed that the officer was killed in the line of duty after being rammed by one of four housebreaking suspects. All four individuals have since been arrested, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 457 for housebreaking. - August 8, 2025
