A 46-YEAR-OLD woman, the wife of a local doctor, and her two sons have been arrested following a police raid on their bungalow in Ketereh, Kelantan, where officers discovered 35 kilograms of compressed cannabis and a semi-automatic pistol.
The raid, conducted by the Kelantan Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) at around 4:30am on Tuesday, also resulted in the seizure of a Glock handgun with 16 rounds of ammunition, several boxes and bags of drugs, and four luxury vehicles including a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz.
Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat told reporters on Saturday that the total value of the drugs and assets seized is estimated at RM420,000.
“The cannabis, estimated to be worth over RM300,000, was found stored in boxes and bags. All three suspects were present in the house at the time of the raid,” he said.
The arrested woman is a housewife and wife of a doctor in his 60s who owns a private clinic in Ketereh. Their two sons, aged 23 and 34, are employed at the same clinic.
“Our investigation shows the mother was aware of her sons’ involvement in drug trafficking. Her husband is not currently a suspect, but his statement will be recorded,” Mohd Yusoff said.
Urine tests showed both sons tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine, while the woman tested negative.
The drugs are believed to have been smuggled in from Thailand and stored at the residence before being distributed locally and beyond Kelantan. According to police, the seized drugs could supply over 35,000 addicts.
All three suspects are being remanded for seven days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
Mohd Yusoff added that the operation is linked to a larger syndicate whose leader was detained in 2023 and is currently serving a prison sentence. Authorities believe the suspects arrested on Tuesday were continuing the group’s illicit activities. - August 10, 2025
