Don't take matters into your own hands, AGC warns over flag issue
Any offences related to raising or displaying the Malaysian flag that could create confusion, misunderstanding, or concern may result in legal action - August 17, 2025

THE Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) has reminded the public not to take matters into their own hands regarding offences related to the Jalur Gemilang.

"This includes raiding premises in question, disseminating private information, making reckless accusations towards individuals or organisations, causing provocation or threats, and taking over authorities' roles such as instructing others to take down, or seize the flag," it said in a statement.

The AGC said it takes the improper display, hoisting, or flying of the Malaysian flag very seriously.

Reported incidents include an upside-down Jalur Gemilang in Kepala Batas, Penang and a school in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan; displaying an incomplete flag in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia results report book and on official news social media accounts.

It reminded all parties of their responsibility to respect the Malaysian flag as a symbol of national sovereignty and to adhere to laws and guidelines on its use.
