AN elderly woman was fined RM1,500 by the Batu Pahat Magistrate's Court today after pleading guilty to hitting her neighbour with a broom after she accused her of deflating her car tyre.

Magistrate Arun Noval Dass imposed the sentence on Tee Guat Poh, 60, after taking into account the appeal and submissions by the defence and prosecution to convict her of the offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

The court also ordered the accused to be jailed for a month if she failed to pay the fine. The accused then paid the fine.

According to the charge, the mother of two was charged with intentionally causing injury to her female neighbour, who is also 60 years old, at a house in Taman Puteri Indah, Tongkang Pechah at 7.35am on August 26.

Section 323 provides for a fine of up to RM2,000 or a year's imprisonment or both if convicted.

Based on the facts of the case, the victim and the accused had an argument in front of her house when the accused then allegedly took a broom and hit the victim.

The incident was recorded on a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera at the woman's house.

Prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip, while the accused was represented by Tan Song Yan from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK). - August 29, 2025
