The contents have baseless and misleading claims - August 30, 2025

SABAH’S Attorney-General warned the public against spreading false or defamatory posts about the Yang di-Pertua Negeri on social media.

Datuk Brenndon Keith Soh said this after taking note of recent postings circulated online.

He said the contents have baseless and misleading claims that risk undermining confidence of the office that was appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“Freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly.

“Deliberate dissemination of offensive or fabricated information can amount to serious offences under Malaysian law,” he said in a statement from Kota Kinabalu.

The chambers cited laws including the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the Sedition Act 1949 and the Penal Code, and said legal action may be taken where necessary.

He also urged the public to verify information through official sources before sharing it online. - August 30, 2025
