THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded the statements of three additional individuals in relation to false and racially inflammatory posts shared on Facebook and TikTok regarding a recent incident at the Perak-level National Day celebration in Ipoh.
The misleading posts falsely claimed that the woman who went up onto the main stage during the event was of Chinese descent.
In a statement released by the MCMC on Thursday, the commission said the assertion has since been confirmed as untrue and is being investigated for its potential to incite racial tension and spread negative perceptions within the community.
The three individuals gave their statements on Wednesday, 3 September, at separate police locations: Kuala Nerang Police Station in Kedah, Beserah Police Station in Kuantan, and the Northeast District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Penang.
Authorities seized three mobile phones, three SIM cards, and one memory card for the purpose of digital forensic analysis.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
