THE Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, has instructed the management of Institut Kemahiran MARA (IKM) Kota Kinabalu to provide immediate support to the families of five students killed in a road accident in Tuaran on Friday afternoon.

In a statement issued today, Dr Asyraf said he had also directed the Sabah MARA Director to assist in managing the funeral arrangements for all five victims.

“My condolences to the families of the victims, and may they all be placed among the righteous,” he said.

Dr Asyraf, who had just arrived in Sabah, said he received the heartbreaking news shortly after his arrival.

“I was informed by the Sabah MARA Director that all five perished in an accident at Jalan Sulaman, near the RELA Training Centre in Tuaran, this afternoon.

“At approximately 2pm, all the victims—young men aged between 19 and 20—were confirmed dead at the scene,” he added.

It is understood that the victims were trapped inside a Toyota Wish and had to be extricated by fire and rescue personnel.

The five victims have been identified as Harianto Anuar, 20; Neil Stanly Pletinie, 20; Mohammad Ikhwan Kurniawan, 20; and Mohamad Zuhaikal Mohd Zaidy, 20. The identity of the fifth individual has yet to be confirmed.

According to initial reports, the group was travelling from Sepanggar towards Kota Belud when their vehicle was believed to have skidded into the opposite lane and was struck by a lorry carrying gravel. - Sept 6, 2025
