A PETRONAS employee working at the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility in Bintulu has reportedly received several threats via the short message service (SMS) from unknown individuals recently.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the employee came forward to lodge a police report after receiving several threatening messages.

“Following the report, the police have advised Petronas to enhance security at their respective facilities.

“The police will also assist through all contingents to ensure that the security of Petronas facilities is maintained for the sake of national security,” he said.

He said this when met after officiating the Blood Donation Programme in conjunction with the 218th Police Day Commemoration in Bukit Aman, today.

Yesterday, the National Security Council (MKN) ordered all LNG facilities in Bintulu, Sarawak to tighten security following an unspecified threat.

The MKN in its statement announced that the order was issued to enable authorities to conduct a detailed investigation, but did not disclose further details on the nature or extent of the threat involved. - September 9, 2025
