TWO individuals have been arrested in Negeri Sembilan in connection with a toll evasion scheme involving hundreds of Touch ‘n Go (TnG) cards that were fraudulently topped up using hacked software, police revealed.

The company, which operates a fleet of 160 lorries, is believed to have used the compromised cards to bypass toll payments for over a year.

State Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the arrests were made following a complaint from TnG and an internal investigation by the company, which identified discrepancies between toll collections and claims at several toll plazas.

“On 18 July, TnG identified a mismatch in toll collections and claims from several plazas. CCTV footage then revealed several lorries from one company conducting suspicious transactions,” he told a press conference today.

A raid was subsequently carried out by the Seremban District Commercial Crime Investigation Division at a company premises, leading to the arrest of a 43-year-old local man, the company owner, and his 33-year-old Chinese wife.

The couple is suspected of using TnG cards that had been illegally topped up via hacking, allowing their lorries to pass through tolls without making legitimate payments.

Items seized during the operation included three mobile phones, 304 TnG cards, a CCTV unit, and RM400,000 in cash.

“Initial investigations revealed that the cards were topped up with unauthorised credit by a local man who remains at large. The cards, though genuine, had been manipulated using two specific software programmes reportedly available online,” Alzafny said.

Each card was loaded with up to RM300 in credit, before being sold to the company for between RM150 and RM200 apiece. The female suspect’s role was to inspect the cards for errors before distributing them to lorry drivers.

“So far, TnG has confirmed that 213 of the seized cards were used fraudulently, resulting in losses of RM59,920 during the months of July and August from this company alone. However, further losses are still being investigated,” he added.

Police are currently tracking down the supplier of the hacked cards. The two suspects have been remanded from 10 to 13 September for investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

“This is the second known case of its kind in the country,” Alzafny said. “We wish to remind the public that the use of hacked Touch ‘n Go cards is a criminal offence under Malaysian law.” - September 12, 2025
