A POLICE officer was killed early this morning in a collision involving two lorries and a car on the Kuala Kangsar–Gerik–Pengkalan Hulu route, near Kampung Tawai.

The victim has been identified as Sergeant Mohd Fahmi Arzmi, 42, who served with the Gerik District Police Headquarters (IPD Gerik).

Gerik District Police Chief Superintendent Abdul Samad Othman said the fatal crash occurred at around 1.50am at Kilometre 85.3, when the victim was driving his Toyota Vios from Gerik towards Kuala Kangsar.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that a fertiliser-laden trailer, driven by a 23-year-old man from the opposite direction, lost control and sideswiped another trailer carrying timber.

“The fertiliser trailer then veered into the opposite lane and collided with the Toyota Vios, which was travelling behind the timber truck,” he said in a statement.

Sergeant Mohd Fahmi sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the fertiliser trailer suffered a head injury and was taken to Taiping Hospital for further treatment, while the 59-year-old timber lorry driver was unharmed.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Superintendent Abdul Samad urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Nik Zailan Nik Li at 019-9004785.

“Road users are reminded to exercise extra caution, especially at night and in curved stretches, to prevent accidents,” he added. - October 1, 2025
