A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy who was critically injured after being bludgeoned with a hammer by his uncle has died after a week of battling for his life at Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia (HPUSM).

Muhammad Ammar Muhammad Badrul passed away at 3.02pm today, his parents confirmed via WhatsApp status updates.

“Assalamualaikum, my son Muhammad Ammar has returned to his origin… please recite Al-Fatihah for him,” wrote his father, Muhammad Badrul Rameli, 31, in a message shared just 20 minutes after his son's passing.

The boy’s mother, Nur Ayuni Mohd Kamarulzaman, 29, also expressed her heartbreak on social media, after doctors had earlier warned the family to prepare for the worst following a 14-minute cardiac arrest the previous morning.

Despite severe head trauma, brain swelling, and over 50 stitches resulting from multiple blows to the head with a hammer, Nur Ayuni had clung to hope that her son would regain consciousness. “As a mother, I hoped, but I am now trying to accept Allah’s will,” she said.

The Year One student was attacked in a disturbing domestic incident last Thursday at a shophouse residence in Pasar Jelawat, Bachok. The assailant, his 46-year-old uncle, fled the scene but was later found dead at Pantai Melawi, approximately three kilometres away from where the assault occurred.

Police have classified the case as a murder investigation. The motive for the attack remains under scrutiny. - October 1, 2025
