Budget to prioritise economic development tailored to the unique needs of each state, rather than being dictated solely at the federal level - October 5, 2025

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spent his Sunday at the Ministry of Finance as he and Treasury officials began preparations for Budget 2026, which he is set to table in Parliament on Friday, 10 October.

“Today I am at the Ministry of Finance with the Treasury team, focusing on preparations for the Fourth Madani Budget 2026,” Anwar said in a post shared on his social media accounts.

As both Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Anwar recently stated that Budget 2026 will mark the first national budget aligned with the objectives of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13). It will prioritise economic development tailored to the unique needs of each state, rather than being dictated solely at the federal level.

During a Budget 2026 engagement session with tourism and manufacturing industry players in Banda Hilir, Melaka, on 27 September, Anwar emphasised that this approach is intended to ensure more balanced economic growth without neglecting the people’s pressing concerns—particularly the rising cost of living.

Budget 2026 will centre around three core pillars: “raising the ceiling”, “raising the floor”, and strengthening good governance in public administration.

The phrase “raising the ceiling” refers to boosting the nation’s competitiveness through investment in innovation, technology, and talent development. Meanwhile, “raising the floor” involves enhancing the delivery of essential public services, particularly education and healthcare, to ensure no group is left behind. - October 5, 2025
