A TOTAL of 36 residents of Taman Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights filed a civil action at the High Court in Shah Alam against five parties including Petronas Gas Berhad, over the explosion and fire incident that occurred on April 1.
The plaintiff's representative, Loh Poh Heng, said the action was filed against Petronas Gas Berhad, Hong & Hong Homes Sdn Bhd, Pinterest Ventures Sdn Bhd, the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) and the Malaysian government.
He said they had appointed former Attorney General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas as the lead lawyer representing the residents in the legal action.
"This is not just a legal claim, but an appeal for justice and recognition of our suffering. We want our voices to be heard," he said as reported by Astro Awani.
Commenting further, he said: “We believe this tragedy was caused by human negligence and should have been avoided. The gas transmission line belonging to Petronas Gas Berhad was placed too close to our house, but the safety measures were insufficient.
“Six months after the incident, many victims still have no permanent place to live and rely on family assistance or live in temporary settlements.
“The fire raged for more than seven hours before it was successfully extinguished. Our homes were destroyed, lives were in ruins, and many residents suffered serious injuries including severe burns and emotional trauma that is still felt to this day.
"Our scars may never go away but through this civil action, our voices will be heard," he said at a press conference at the housing estate.
He also claimed that residents were left without clear information after the explosion.
"After the explosion, we were left without any clear information.
"The investigation was conducted in a non-transparent manner and the repair work was carried out without any explanation to the residents whose homes were destroyed," he claimed.
Commenting further, Loh informed that 36 residents are demanding compensation for losses including homes, health and peace of mind as well as justice and transparency from the authorities.
They also hope that no other community will have to go through the same experience in the future.
The gas explosion, which occurred at 8.10am on April 1, affected 529 residents from 118 families and caused damage to 235 premises including houses and shops, with 87 of them destroyed. – October 18, 2025
